Caption:     The sun does not appear round due to the curvature radius, when the sun is just above the horizon, the sun is then near the earth, deflected into the atmosphere and it takes longer for the rays to reach our eyes. So it seems as if the sun is lifted and therefore it seems the sun is flattened.
