Dirk-Jan van Unen (Zwolle, 1971) has an enormous fascination for Nature in the broadest sense of the word. It all started in his youth with his love for the feathered friends. Later on his focus broadened from the world of light years in astronomy to the nano world in biochemistry. He received his education in biochemistry and did his Ph.D. study in enzymology. Dirk-Jan is married to Sandra and together they are the proud parents of Max. During their holidays, they like to travel to nature reserves all around the globe with a clear preference for Northern Europe and Africa. The Netherlands is a favorite destination for the weekends. His creative style of photography is given a tremendous boost by the digital revolution. A recurring theme in his pictures is the use of backlight. Dirk-Jan uses Nikon equipment with lenses ranging from wide-angle to tele.
